Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 officially completed 10 years of its journey since its launch on September 17, 2013. The game originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before getting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in 2014 with the launch of the consoles. To celebrate the 10-year anniversary, Rockstar Games has launched special GTA 5-themed items on GTA Online. Here are all the details that you need to know about the game and new themed items.
Ten years of GTA 5
Grand Theft Auto 5 is not only one of the most successful games from Rockstar, but also one of the most popular games of all time. The game has sold 185 million copies to date, earning about $7.7 billion in revenue. In addition, the game is also part of the history with multiple Guinness World Records to its name.
Looking back, GTA 5 became the bestselling video game within 24 hours of launch with 11.2 million copies sold on launch day. It generated $800 million and earned the title of bestselling action-adventure video game, all on the launch day itself. It currently holds the Guinness World Record for earning the highest revenue within 24 hours of launch in the entertainment product category.
The game also went on to become the fastest title to gross $1 billion within 3 days of launch. It became the fastest entertainment property to achieve this feat. Additionally, the 2011 trailer that introduced fans to its Los Santos setting and more is currently the most-viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame with 89 million views at the time of writing, even 12 years after its release. Such is the legacy of Grand Theft Auto V.
Rockstar Games brings themed items to GTA Online
Celebrating the success of GTA 5, Rockstar Games announced that it will be adding GTA 5-themed items to the GTA Online. This includes outfits inspired by the three main protagonists of GTA 5, Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips- The Retired Criminal, The Homie, and The Groupie outfits. Additionally, themed finishes for weapons have also been added like the custom-themed Employee of the Month finish for the Micro SMG, Suede Bucks finish for the Carbine Rifle, and Uncle T finish for the RPG Launcher.
Additionally, gamers can earn extra money inside the game and experience points (RP) from new “Lamar and Trevor Contact” Missions, “Hangar Sell” Mission, “Come Out and Play” mode, and Community Series. GTA Online gamers can also take part in the new “Data Leaks” event in the game.
Rockstar Games has added new entries in the Premium Deluxe Motorsport showroom, which includes returning vehicles from GTA 5. The Luxury Autos Showroom too has new vehicles. On that note, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S console players will get to test out the “Coil Cyclone II (Super)” Hypercar as part of the premium test ride for the week.
