San Diego Studio and Sony have revealed MLB The Show 23‘s new Face Scan feature, which will allow you to scan your face in order to put yourself in the game. All the feature will require is a single selfie from your phone; you won’t have to put on any motion-capture outfits or send snaps of yourself to the devs.
Within the last few weeks, San Diego Studio has been building hype for MLB The Show 23 by showing off some of its extensive gameplay changes, revealing its new story mode, and highlighting Jazz Chisholm as its cover athlete. In the latest MLB The Show 23 trailer, Chisholm visits San Diego Studio to talk about the new Face Scan feature alongside producer Michael McDonald.
In the trailer, McDonald reveals that an MLB The Show companion app will allow you to take a selfie, then upload that selfie into the game. The upload process is near-instantaneous, and if you’re not entirely happy with what the upload process has given you, it’s possible to edit whatever you like (except your head shape) afterwards in order to get your athlete looking exactly the way you want them to.
You’ll be able to take your face-scanned player wherever you can use a created player in the main game, including the Diamond Dynasty mode, Road to the Show, and more. In essence, this should give you a quicker and easier way to put yourself in the action in MLB The Show 23 without painstakingly recreating your face attribute by attribute. Let’s hope the face scanning tech is accurate, eh?
MLB The Show 23 launches for PlayStation consoles, Xbox platforms, and Nintendo Switch on March 28th.
