Microsoft has rolled out another update to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha preview ring, which adds a new Captures app with improved performance and additional Discord and Twitch features.
The latest update for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha preview ring is now available. A number of new features are included, such as additional Twitch and Discord functionality, and most notably, further enhancements to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One game DVR.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One Captures app available now for Alpha Insiders

Game DVR on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One has been in dire need of an overhaul for far too long, but it looks like Microsoft is beginning to improve its functionality. Earlier this month, Xbox Insiders received an update recently that increased 1080p and 720p Game DVR bitrate by 30% on Xbox Series X|S. Yesterday, a public update added the ability to edit captures directly in the Xbox mobile app, adding further options for sharing your captures.
Xbox Insiders in the Alpha preview ring have now received another update, this time overhauling the game DVR library itself. The library is now called Captures and can be found within the My games & apps and Guide. It’s much the same as before, except its performance has been improved, the UI has been updated, and the ability to copy your locally saved (stored on your console) captures to an external drive has been added. The Verge’s Tom Warren has uploaded a video on Twitter, offering us a glimpse of the new Captures app.
Alongside the DVR improvements, players that have linked their Xbox account with Discord can now access a server and voice channel browser on their console via the Discord button within the Parties & chats tab. For streamers, the Twitch streaming feature can now be linked to Lightstream and StreamLabs from within the Live streaming options page. To round off the update, Ukrainian is now available as a console display language, although the Xbox Wire blog does note that not everything in the Xbox Store will be displayed in Ukrainian, in which case you’ll need to let them know via Report a Problem.
In other Microsoft news, the current investigation into the company’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard has revealed Microsoft’s plans to build a new “Xbox Mobile Platform” to compete with Apple and Google.
These features will hopefully roll out to everyone in the future, so we might not have long to wait until it’s our turn to try them out. What do you make of the new additions? Will you be able to make use of the features? Drop a comment below and let us know!
