Hell is Us, the new title from the developer of Mordheim and Necromunda sounds more than a little odd.
It’s not arriving till next year, but the teaser trailer reminds us of nothing so much as a mash-up of Death Stranding and Final Fantasy VII Remake. It features the spectre of a remorseful war survivor who decides not to forgive her attacker and, instead, shoots them in the head. She then does it again, and again, like some kind of grim Groundhog Day.
The action then switches to a battlefield, where a character, wielding a ridiculously large sword, surveys the carnage. It’s not clear whether the civil war is still ongoing but, according to developer Rogue Factor and publisher Nacon, there’s been a “…recent appearance of supernatural creatures resembling ancient headstones and monuments in the region.”

So we’re not just talking about Weeping Angels, you could find yourself fending off sentient tombstones. We’re hoping the next trailer will shed some light on this because, depending how it’s executed, Hell is Us’s foes could be utterly horrifying or extremely silly. Regardless of how the enemies turn out, Rogue Factor promises that the game won’t hold your hand so you could be wading through fields of corpses with no clear idea of where to go. Creepy.
You can check out the non work-safe trailer here; we loved Rogue Factor’s Mordheim: City of the Damned, though we were less positive about its more recent title, Necromunda: Underhive Wars. Hopefully Hell is Us will be a hit, not a damp squib. You’ll be able to find out for sure when it arrives on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S next year.
