Kingdom Hearts IV is on the way and that can mean only one thing.. even more narrative spaghetti!
Yes, we loved Kingdom Hearts 3, but you can’t deny that the Kingdom Hearts series, which is made up of thirteen titles, has got a little convoluted. We have our fingers crossed that Kingdom Hearts IV is (mostly) a fresh start for the series.
Square Enix announced the title as part of the Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary event, celebrating the action-RPG’s long, long history. The trailer that accompanied the event shows protagonist Sora waking up in a modern city (something that was teased at the end of the last game) and living out a normal, uneventful life as a data entry clerk.

We’re kidding, of course. Yes, he wakes up in a modern metropolis but, pretty soon, a towering, pitch-black monster turns up and Sora uses his Devil May Cry-style abilities to take the entity on. Donald and Goofy do get a look in (the Kingdom Heart series mines various Disney properties) but they’re separated from Sora.
And that’s more or less it. Square Enix’s announcement didn’t give a release date and revealed very little else about the upcoming title. It looks gorgeous though we suspect it’ll take a while to get used to Sora and Riku’s new looks. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
