The Haunting is returning to MW2 and Warzone in 2023 with a brand new set of spooky Operator Skins, ghastly map locations for battle royale, and terrifying new modes for multiplayer.
Call of Duty players are no strangers to The Haunting, but due to MW2’s release date being in October, it didn’t appear in 2022. Thankfully, the popular mid-season update is back with MW2 Warzone Season 6 in 2023 and with some incredible new Operators for players to use.
Here is everything we know regarding The Haunting 2023 release date in MW2 & Warzone and what players can expect from this upcoming update.
MW2 & Warzone Season 6 The Haunting 2023 Release Date
The MW2 and Warzone Season 6 The Haunting mid-season update will go live on October 17, 2023, and introduce various spooky changes to both the multiplayer and battle royale. It is the final seasonal update for MW2.
Usually, the mid-season update is called “Reloaded,” but to celebrate Halloween and give players a more unique experience, Season 6 will instead have The Haunting. The update will feature various changes to both MW2 and Warzone, along with new Operator Skins.
Players will also get daily rewards for logging into MW2 and Warzone during The Haunting update, but Call of Duty has yet to show any of the rewards.
All The Haunting 2023 Operators & Skins
MW2 Warzone Season 6 The Haunting will bring six entirely new Operators alongside several spooky skins for already existing Operators, including:

Disruptor – Horangi Skin
Soul Crusher – Vega Skin

Doom Weapon Bundle
This isn’t an Operator or skin, but it is a collaboration with Doom to bring twp of its most iconic weapons to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
MW2 The Haunting 2023 Map Changes & Modes
The Haunting 2023 is changing several MW2 multiplayer modes and adding a ghastly touch to give players a more “haunting” experience.
Here are some of the most noticeable changes coming to multiplayer:
El Asilo – The Haunting Reskin
The El Asilo multiplayer map is getting a complete makeover with its The Haunting reskin. Calaveras will decorate the map as El Asilo celebrates Dia de Muertos. Players will find several painted and neon skulls throughout the landscape alongside marigolds, candles, and altars that honor lost loved ones.
Embassy – The Haunting Reskin
The second map receiving a Haunting reskin is the Embassy, which was just left in ruins by a zombie attack. Players will see remnants of the zombie’s victims scattered throughout the map, alongside many signs still asking for help.
Haunting Domination
In Domination, players will need to find points to capture and control in order to earn points. However, The Haunting is bringing a spooky twist by replacing the usual flags with scarecrows instead.
Capture and hold every scarecrow on the map in order to obtain the most points possible.
Haunting Kill Confirmed/Grind
Kill Confirmed and Grind are changing out their Dog Tags for skulls that players will need to gather in order to obtain points.
Haunting Drop Zone Drop Scares
Drop Zone is getting possessed by ghosts to celebrate The Haunting, so players will need to tread carefully when they open any crates in this mode. They may receive a trick instead of a treat!
Haunting Infected
Infected always gave players a chance to play as something other than a human operative, but with The Haunting, players will now play as one of the iconic Zombies from the popular mode.
Possessed Equipment
Players will also get the chance to use Possessed Equipment in MW2 and Warzone during The Haunting event, which will introduce changes to certain equipment:
- Sound Veil Scream
- The Suppression Mine will not send out the screams of the dead to any player who steps into it.
- Decoy Grenade
- The Decoy Grenade will now send out monstrous sounds ontop of the gunfire to help distract other players.
Warzone The Haunting 2023 Map Changes & Modes
The Haunting mid-season update is bringing several changes to Warzone and even a Limited-Time Mode for players to enjoy.
Operation Nightmare – Al Mazrah (The Haunting)
Al Mazrah players will get to take part in Operation Nightmare, where they need to investigate anomalies that have entered the Warzone and eliminate Most Wanted targets in these locations.
Players who help eliminate the targets will get a chance to earn a Mastery Weapon Blueprint.
Vondead – Vondel
Vondel is getting overwhelmed with the undead, which has forced the entire area to evacuate, leaving only zombies in its streets. Players will need to eliminate enemy teams while watching their backs against the constant onslaught of zombies under the Blood Moon.
Zombie Royale – LTM, Al Mazrah, Vondel
Zombie Royale is a limited-time mode that makes its way into Warzone with the mid-season The Haunting update. In this mode, the Gulag is permanently closed, and instead, eliminated players will reappear in the Warzone as Zombies.
In this mode, players will get the chance to play as Zombies with their own unique skill set. As a zombie, players can actually revive themselves by eliminating enough players who are still alive on the battlefield.
Vondead Lockdown
During Vondead Lockdown, players will need to capture and hold different points around Vondel in a night-time variant of the map.
It is a completely different take on Warzone that prioritizes objective gameplay over eliminating enemy players.
Equipment Changes & The Haunting Items
Warzone is also getting new equipment to help them fight the hordes of ghosts and zombies that are making their way into Al Mazrah and Vondel. Some of these items include:
- Haunted Box
- This strange-looking loot box will drop plates, ammo, and equipment for players who open them. However, there is a chance that it will also attack those who dare mess with it.
- Bloodseeker Grenade
- This is a new “living” grenade that will clamp onto your enemies and highlight them with thermal vision. However, players can avoid this by going underwater.
- Trick and Treat: Jump Scares
- Containers across Al Mazrah and Vondel have been possessed, which could result in terrifying jump scares for players who open them.
The Haunting Soul Capture Event
During the MW2 Warzone Season 6 mid-season update, The Haunting, players will get a chance to participate in the Soul Capture Event, where they will need to collect the souls of eliminated players.
The way the event works is that any time a player is eliminated across all game modes, they will drop a soul. Players can collect these souls, and they will be automatically added to your total, which you can then trade for items in the Events tab.
