December was not kind to the Charlotte Hornets.
For all of the chatter about the Detroit Pistons, who made history by losing 28 consecutive games, the Pistons finished the month 1-12. Guess who also lost 12 of 13 games in December? Yup, the Charlotte Hornets.
Injuries have played a massive role in Charlotte’s 7-23 start to the season. LaMelo Ball began the season at an All-Star level but has now missed more than a month of games with an ankle sprain. Gordon Hayward was having a nice bounceback year; he, too, is now sidelined. Starting center Mark Williams has been in and out of the lineup.
Denver played Charlotte already this season and won, 102-95, on the road. A strong second half in which Denver held Charlotte to just 9 total points in the third quarter helped the Nuggets win their second game in two nights.
Speaking of winning, Denver’s done a lot of that lately. They’ve claimed 10 victories in their last 12 games and currently sit at the third spot in the Western Conference standings with a 23-11 record. Their record last year at this time? 24-12, which on January 1, 2023, was good for the No. 1 seed in the West.
