Grand Theft Auto V’s entire source code has been leaked, alongside other information such as GTA 6’s Python code, all files of the cancelled Bully 2 game, and more. The leak has also revealed multiple planned DLCs for GTA 5 that were dropped by Rockstar Games.
GTA 5 leak
The leak is part of the large hacking that Rockstar Games suffered last year, and these details were previously being traded privately and are now public. Dataminers and users on the internet have been digging around, and it has now come to light that Rockstar Games had at least eight DLCs for GTA V in the works before dropping the development on it.
Here are the GTA V DLCs that were cancelled:
- SP Assassination Pack
- SP Manhunt Pack
- SP Norman Pack
- Agent Trevor
- Relationship Pack
- Enterprise Pack
- Prologue DLC
- LibertyV DLC
From the looks of it, it includes expansions that could have led players to Liberty City, and other potential new features such as developing a romantic relationship with partners. The Prologue DLC could have been an after-story for GTA V’s ending, and the enterprise pack may have added business opportunities in the single player world of the game like we have them in GTA Online.
Why source code leak of a decade-old game matters
The leak has also revealed an early look at the GTA V map, but far more important is the source code leak, since it paves easier ways of introducing cheats in GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Having access to how the Red Engine is built and functions allows modders to introduce more cheats and circumventions to the game. While GTA V is more than a decade old, GTA Online still persists and more elaborate ways of cheating online can cause distress to other players on a GTA Online server.
