MISSOULA, Mont. — Griz football has started its holiday break, but before players headed home, NBC Montana caught up with the man who had Saturday's game-sealing interception — Corbin Walker.
Walker said throughout Saturday's game a lot of his teammates made plays to put the team in position to win.
“Obviously 2-point conversions (are) hard to complete, so just knowing through film and stuff like that what play they're going to run and then just being in the right spot at the right time, it was awesome,” he said.
Walker is headed home to Seattle for the holidays, but he plans to keep working out. He said watching tape is a big part of preparing for South Dakota State’s all-American quarterback Mark Gronowski.
“Film’s a big thing. We can pick up tendencies and pick up like what he wants to do, how he wants to attack us, the schemes that they're running, so film’s a big part of that,” he said. “Just going out there and executing our game plan and being in the right spot, being where guys can count on you to be. That’s the way we're going to get it done.”
Walker said the chance to compete for a national title in his fifth year is “surreal.” Since the Sept. 23 loss at NAU, it's almost been a different season, he told NBC Montana.
Walker believes the team has what it takes to win it all next month in Frisco, Texas. “We have a great team, and I think we can bring the national championship home.”
