A number of New England Patriots fans who made the trip to Frankfurt for the team’s first game in Germany were out and about in the city the day before the Pats faced the Indianapolis Colts.
There are some skyscrapers under construction in Frankfurt, a financial hub in Europe, but the heart of Old Town, Römerberg, was buzzing with excitement.
“I love it. It’s really nice and unique here. It’s great,” said Simone Johnson, a Patriots fan from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Fans roaming in Römerberg stumbled upon a street performer dressed as a patriot, and some even ran into a Patriots player, linebacker Jahlani Tavai.
There were Colts fans out and about in Old Town, but plenty of Boston accents could be heard in the marketplace.
“I love it. I think it’s great,” said Rachel Boise, a Patriots fan from Hanover, Massachusetts. “I love seeing all the Patriots fans over here. I love to see Germany. It’s one of my favorite countries in Europe.”
A strong contingent from New England was also at the NFL Experience in Frankfurt and waited in line to test their arm strength and passing accuracy.
For some Patriots fans, the trip to Germany was a chance to spend time with family. Mike and Logan Angers, a father and son from Woburn, Massachusetts, began planning their getaway after the game was announced.
