A possum interrupted TCU–Texas Tech football rivalry game, storming onto the field and refusing to leave before finally being captured, as college football fans went on a frenzy over the chaotic moment.
The marsupial ran onto the gridiron at the start of the second quarter of Thursday night’s matchup at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, leaving spectators impressed by its speed and resolve to cross freely.
Fox Sports’ broadcast picked up the frantic chase to capture the relatively harmless creature while the score was locked at 7-7.
‘Rodents of unusual size are showing up in Lubbock. That just happened. We had an opossum at the 15-yard line,’ said one of two FS1 commentators in the booth, despite wrongly labeling the possum’s infraclass.
‘He was not happy about being escorted out of the stadium.’

The critter was seen clawing onto the field at Jones AT&T Stadium while being held in captivity
It didn’t take too long to chase the possum down, but fans couldn’t help but to feel sorry for the critter, as it was seen hanging onto the field with its sharp claws while being dragged away by some sort of hook.
‘He paid for his ticket like everyone else,’ pointed out a user on X, in defense of the animal.
‘Bro just wanted to be on the team lol,’ commented another after describing the moment as ‘hilarious’.
‘What was the play call?’ joked a different fan.
‘He just wanna play. Give him the football. He want that touchdown so bad,’ said an individual.
‘More entertaining than the game,’ quipped another.

Texas Tech and TCU’s rivalry goes way back, up until 1926. TCU won the first ever game played between both teams that year, 28-16.
However, the Red Raiders hold the overall advantage in the historical series, 32-30-3, and the longest winning streak (6) in the rivalry.
Texas Tech emerged victorious once again, on Thursday night, winning the latest rivalry game, 35-28.
