“With the number of players being in line with past successful launches such as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we are humbled by the positive reception,” Ubisoft said on Twitter. “We are proud to also share that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the biggest new-gen launch in terms of unit sales to date at Ubisoft (PS5, Xbox Series X|S).”
Ubisoft also shared that in Mirage’s first six days, players have spent a collective 479 years parkouring their way across Baghdad, performed 60 million leaps of faith, and stroked 1.2 million street cats. In all honesty, that last stat is far too low, and you all need to up your petting game. However, I guess some blame can be placed on Ubisoft here as the Assassin’s Creed Mirage achievements do not feature an achievement for petting a cat, which should be mandatory if you feature that mechanic in your game.
With Mirage, Ubisoft brought the Assassin’s Creed franchise back to its roots. Instead of the vast RPGs like Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins, Mirage is a smaller and tighter experience that focuses on assassinations, stealth, and parkour. Considering how pleased Ubisoft is, it’s possible that we could get more Assassin’s Creed games similar to Mirage in the future, especially as they are likely much cheaper to create.
In our Assassin’s Creed Mirage review, we called it a “successful parry of franchise fatigue” and found that the refocus on stealth was a major plus.
