Starfield is right around the corner, and players are wondering if Bethesda will be bringing back the fan-favorite feature of mods.
Modding has been a staple of Bethesda games, officially since Morrowind, and has allowed for its games to continue their relevancy for a long time.
So, it’s understandable that fans are expecting mods to appear in the upcoming space adventure game. Below, we answer if there will be mods for Starfield on PC and Xbox.
Will Starfield Have Mods on PC?
Yes, Starfield will have full mod support on PC like all of Bethesda’s previous games.
This was first confirmed by Todd Howard during a 2021 Reddit AMA, in which he reassured fans that Starfield would have mod support.
During the AMA, Howard, replying to a fan’s question, said that the “plan [is to] have full mod support like our previous games.”
He then went on to praise the modding community that has been adding or tweaking content to Bethesda’s extensive library of games for 20 years. He said in the AMA:
Our modding community has been with us for 20 years. We love what they do and hope to see more make a career out of it.”

In June 2023, Howard spoke on an episode of the Kinda Funny Games Xcast, in which he said that Starfield will be a “modder’s paradise.”
He then reiterated the importance of mods in their games, saying that it’s “part of our DNA” and that making implementing mods as easy as possible is an important aspect of Starfield.
This is certainly a big deal for the modding community, as Starfield is set to be Bethesda’s biggest game, with the potential to add even more content.

Will Starfield Have Mods on Xbox?
No, on launch, Starfield will not have mods on Xbox Series X/S. Bethesda has not confirmed whether mods will be added post-launch to the console editions of the game.
However, it is possible that in the future, Bethesda will add mod functionality in the same way it did for the Skyrim: Special Edition.
In the Skyrim: Special Edition, console players could download mods uploaded to the Creation Club by modders. Additionally, Skyrim: Anniversary Edition included pre-installed mods as part of the package.
While Bethesda has not confirmed if this is the route it will take with implementing mods on Xbox, if at all, it certainly seems like the most logical approach.
