Just like any other game with a marketplace, Fortnite has its very own in-game currency called V-Bucks, which you can buy using real money.
For the first time since 2021, Fortnite has tweaked its V-Bucks prices, not coincidentally just after the Bank of England’s 0.5% interest rate hike in June.
The ongoing cost-of-living crisis is still going, and as if it wasn’t already disheartening enough to fork out £4 for a dozen eggs, its influence is now affecting your gaming escapades too.
Via a recent blog post, Epic Games provided a detailed breakdown of the exact pricing changes that will impact Fortnite players, pointing to ‘economic factors like inflation and currency fluctuations’ as the driving forces.
This means, that if you’re looking to buy, let’s say, the Chapter 4 Season 3 battle pass, get ready to dish out £6.99 to snag 1,000 V-Bucks, whereas it used to be £6.49.
The larger V-Buck bundles are also feeling the pinch, with the cost of 2,800 V-Bucks rising from £15.99 to £17.49.
And if you were eyeing that hefty top-tier 13,500 V-Bucks package, that’ll now be £69.99 instead of the previous £63.99 – which was already quite a lot to begin with.
Epic Games is also raising the price of in-game currency in Fall Guys, showing that Fortnite isn’t the only game affected by rising costs, and it probably won’t be the last.
In a rather surprising twist, the effects of the unpredictable economic situation on video game prices can apparently work both ways.
While it may not seem too strange for game prices to be influenced by economic instability, what’s unexpected is that a game like Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is being implicated as one of the factors behind UK inflation – a claim made by actual economists and not Reddit.
