Mega Cat has announced that its wacky upcoming wrestling RPG WrestleQuest has been delayed. The game was originally slated to arrive in May 2023, but it’s now scheduled for summer instead so that the developers have time to iron out a few kinks without breaking kayfabe.
In a new Steam post, Mega Cat says that as development on WrestleQuest raced towards its May 2023 release window, the studio “secured a new partnership we are extremely excited about”. This partnership apparently “resulted in certain issues outside of our control”. It’s not clear what partnership they’re referring to; it could be a wrestler, a promotion, or something else entirely.
After talking with publisher Skybound, Mega Cat says it decided to push WrestleQuest‘s release date back to summer. The new official release date will be announced sometime later in May, but for now, it looks like you’re going to have just a little bit longer to wait for this crowd-pleaser to show its, erm, face.
During development, Mega Cat says that the “multiple focus groups” and “hours of playtesting feedback” it’s gathered have allowed it to make some big changes to WrestleQuest over the years. These include a revamped UI, better graphics, and more. The studio estimates that the final product will offer over 50 hours of gameplay, which is a pretty impressive number indeed. Let’s hope it’s more Shane McMahon vs. The Big Show and less Goldust vs. Ultimate Warrior.
WrestleQuest is slated to be released for PC and consoles sometime this summer. It’ll offer a skewed, pixelated take on the world of professional wrestling and will feature the likenesses of iconic athletes like “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and Andre the Giant.
