The Sims 4 launched in 2014 and has since seen the launch of over 60 DLC packs and kits. EA made the base game free-to-play in 2022, which saw it join some of the best free Xbox games and led to an uptick of around 16 million new players and an increase in average weekly users by 53%. Since it became free, in-game gallery downloads have skyrocketed, with 7 million downloads being made this week alone. The influx in players has led to The Sims 4 having now been played by more than 70 million people and helped its recent Growing Together expansion enjoy the most successful launch week of any previous expansion.
“It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4,” executive producer Phillip Ring said. “We know The Sims 4 continues to be a creative outlet for people, and our team strives to deliver new and innovative gameplay content that empowers our players to embrace the chaos that comes with self-discovery.”
