Xbox boss Phil Spencer discussed the team’s “commitment to our fans is that we need to have a steady release of great games that people can play on our platform,” adding, “we didn’t do enough of that in 2022.”
2023 lies ahead with a whole year of new releases and games coming to Game Pass, but looking back on last year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that “2022 was too light on games.”

Phil Spencer discussed the Xbox team’s commitment to “continue to deliver great games”
“Our commitment to our fans is that we need to have a steady release of great games that people can play on our platform, and we didn’t do enough of that in 2022, there’s no doubt. And fundamentally, that’s on me. I’m the head of the business,” Spencer said in an interview with IGN, when discussing the fact that 2022 didn’t have too many releases. “The commitment we have to our customers to continue to deliver great games is something that I take seriously, the teams take seriously, and 2022 was too light on games,” he continues.
Spencer adds that the Xbox team is “excited about getting to roll into 2023,” and notes the recent Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct showcase, during which Hi-Fi Rush launched into Game Pass as a surprise addition, and we got a May 2nd release date for Redfall and an April 18th release date for Minecraft Legends. We didn’t get a release date for Forza Motorsport or an idea of when Starfield’s dedicated showcase will take place.
