Weapon Blueprints have been a part of Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 2019, and now you can create and save your own custom Blueprints in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.
This change came with the larger mid-season Season 1 Reloaded update for MW2 and Warzone 2 that launched on December 14, 2022.
Here we’ll tell you how to utilize this feature and how to make and save your own custom Weapon Blueprints!
How Do You Make and Save Custom Weapon Blueprints?
To make a custom Weapon Blueprint, select a gun, open the Gunsmith menu, make the changes you want, and then save and name your custom Weapon.
Afterward, you can add the custom weapon from the base weapon group (M4 etc.) to your Loadout. But you can only make a maximum of five custom Weapon Blueprints per base weapon group.
- Open MW2 or Warzone 2 on your platform of choice.
- Select the “Weapons” tab at the top of the screen.
- Select the “Loadout” you want to change or create a new one.
- Select a Primary or Secondary Weapon you want to change out.
- Use the cursor or stick to select “Gunsmith” or “Swap.”
- Swap to choose a different weapon from the base weapon groups.
- Or edit the weapon in the Gunsmith menu to make a custom Blueprint of what you have equiped.
- Add or remove any attachments or cosmetics you want.
- You can remove attachments or cosmetics you don’t own, but you can only add attachments and cosmetics you bought or unlocked.
- Once you are happy with it, you can save it.
- Press L2 on PlayStation.
- Press LT on Xbox.
- Click “Save a Custom Mod” on your PC.
- Enter a name for your custom Weapon Blueprint.
- Select “Save Weapon” or “Done” to confirm the custom weapon.
How To View and Equip Your Weapon Blueprints
To view a saved gun, go to the Weapon menu, select a loadout, click the primary weapon, select the base weapon group you want to view, and then your saved Blueprint should appear.
Adding a weapon to a loadout involves going to the “Weapon” tab, selecting a loadout, and then choosing the weapon you want under its base weapon group.
- Go to the Weapon tab, and select the loadout you want to change.
- Select a primary weapon as listed above.
- Except for this time, don’t go to the Gunsmith directly; click “Swap.”
- Select the base weapon group you used to make your customized Blueprint, and it should appear under it.
- Press the button indicated to equip the custom weapon in your loadout.
What Are Weapon Blueprints?
Weapon Blueprints are variations of base guns you can find or buy in MW2 and Warzone 2 with cosmetic and/or stat differences.
Blueprints are earned in the DMZ mode, via the Battle Pass, or in the in-game store.
- Both Custom Loadouts and Weapon Blueprints are unlockable at Level 4.
- You level up by playing game modes, getting kills or delivering damage, and completing challenges listed on the left side of the screen when you are waiting to join a game.
- You can earn Blueprints in three different ways.
What Are Custom Weapon Blueprints?
Custom Weapon Blueprints are personalized user versions of Blueprints or base weapons you have edited and saved as a new Blueprint.
Once saved, these will appear next to other Blueprints under the same base guns. For example, a modified M4 will appear when you select the base M4 on your weapon screen.
Why Are Blueprint Weapons Changing Classes?
Currently, there is a bug where some players add Blueprint Weapons to a class or loadout, which resets the loadout to default.
The developer Infinity Ward has not addressed this error in their bug reporting site, so you might want to wait for a patch before using the custom Blueprints feature.
Possible Fixes for the Bug
Depending if you are playing on console or PC, gamers have found different possible fixes for the Blueprint bug:
- PC & Console: Some players have reported that removing Gold Camo skin from custom Blueprint weapons can fix this issue. However, others have not had the same luck.
- Console: YouTuber BooM Slayer also discovered a fix for console players that involves deleting saved data. Still, again it has not worked with every player and can delete campaign mission progress and more in MW2.
- Due to the risks of losing progress, we wouldn’t recommend this fix, but feel free to follow the video for instructions at your discretion.
Before you jump into custom Weapon Blueprints, you are probably going to have to unlock some attachments to customize your weapons.
But a lot more was added via the Season 1 Reloaded update for MW2 and Warzone 2.
