Players can now continue their progression in MW2 thanks to the new Prestige Ranks – here’s everything you need to know about them.
In MW2, you gain experience by completing daily quests, partaking in multiplayer matches, and so much more. So, it only makes sense that players would want to progress beyond Rank 55.
Fortunately, with the introduction of Season 1, players now have the chance to show off their progression with Prestige Ranks.
Can You Prestige in MW2?
Yes, you can Prestige in MW2, as once you reach Rank 56 in MW2, you will enter Prestige Rank 1. This won’t override your overall ranking but simply add to it.
There are currently five Prestige Ranks in Season 1. However, more will be added in future seasons allowing players to continue their progression.
How to Increase Your Prestige Rank in MW2
There are three main ways to rank up your Prestige Rank in MW2: completing daily quests, playing multiplayer matches, and finishing career milestone challenges.
These will all give you XP, which will count toward your overall rank. You will then need to meet Rank milestones to increase your overall Prestige.
Here are all the Rank milestones you need to meet to increase your Prestige:
- Prestige 1 – Unlocked at rank 56.
- Prestige 2 – Unlocked at rank 100.
- Prestige 3 – Unlocked at rank 150.
- Prestige 4 – Unlocked at rank 200.
- Prestige 5 – Unlocked at rank 250.
Essentially, you increase your Prestige Rank in MW2 by ranking up as you would normally. All experience points you earn through completing these activities will go toward your Prestige Rank.

Maximum Prestige in Modern Warfare 2
Currently, in Season 1 of MW2, the highest Prestige Rank is 5. This will be achieved at Rank 250, which is also the cap for Season 1.
However, each Season will bring another set of Prestige Ranks for you to obtain and will ultimately increase the maximum Prestige Rank in MW2.
What Rewards Do You Get With Each Prestige Rank in MW2?
With each Prestige Rank in MW2, you unlock a brand-new Prestige Emblem and a set of challenges that, once completed, will unlock an exclusive Calling Card.
You can equip the Prestige Emblem by going to the Customize tab from the MW2 lobby and selecting one that you’ve just unlocked.

- Boot up MW2 and select MW2 from the list of games.
- When in the MW2 lobby, press R1 four times to scroll to the Customize tab (or select Customize at the top on PC).
- Choose Emblem from the list of options in the Customize tab.
- Select which Emblem you wish to equip (Press X on PlayStation, A on Xbox, and select it with the left mouse button on PC).
- Pick the Emblem that corresponds to your highest Prestige Rank so you can demonstrate how far you’ve come.

Do You Lose Your Prestige Rank When the Next Season Starts in MW2?
No, you do not lose your Prestige Rank or any progress you’ve made toward the next Prestige Rank when a new season starts in MW2.
When the next season starts, you will continue your progress from where you left off. So, if you reached Prestige Rank 3, you will continue the next Season from that Rank.
This is a change from previous COD games and is called Persistent Prestige. It allows anyone who hasn’t caught up to achieve all Prestige Ranks and ensures no one misses out.
