Ender Lilies developer Adglobe has announced its newest project. Redemption Reapers is a tactical RPG created alongside Fire Emblem veteran director Masayuki Horikawa, and it’s coming to PC, PlayStation, and Switch in February.
The name Redemption Reapers was first trademarked by Ender Lilies publisher Binary Haze all the way back in July. Now, we know exactly what the project will look like. As you’d expect from a Fire Emblem veteran, Redemption Reapers will be a tactical RPG, but its aesthetic tends more towards dark fantasy than Fire Emblem‘s more colorful approach.
The game takes place in a world overrun by the armies of the Mort, a macabre force that descends on towns and cities each night and leaves them devastated. You are the Ashen Hawk Brigade, a group of mercenaries tasked with defending the land from the Mort. You can check out the Redemption Reapers announcement trailer here to get a sense of what the game will be like.
Gameplay-wise, Redemption Reapers has you engaging in tactical battles and using the spoils you earn to outfit and equip your ragtag mercenary band. The trailer shows what appears to be an action-based followup system wherein you can press buttons for extra damage or attacks after party members have landed their skills, too, so you’ll need to stay on your toes.
Binary Haze founder Hiroyuki Kobayashi says Redemption Reapers is an attempt to “approach a new genre ideal for sharing [the studio’s] love of dark fantasy stories” after the success of the publisher’s first game Ender Lilies. Kobayashi says the “tactical RPG combat and emotional storytelling” of Binary Haze’s new game should make for a memorable experience. I sure hope he’s right!
Redemption Reapers launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in February 2023. We don’t have a more specific release date than that yet, so stay tuned for more info.
