The recently released Sonic Frontiers seems to be a step in the right direction for 3D Sonic and while it received mixed reviews from critics, rather than exceptional reviews like SEGA had initially hoped, it is generally considered a fun 3D platformer. In an interview with Sector, Sonic Team head, Takashi Iizuka, said that the goal was “to create a game that would be the cornerstone of future Sonic games.” Thankfully it seems as though the Sonic Team have held true to that goal and have laid some fairly decent groundwork for the future.
Sonic Frontiers is set to set a new template, just like Sonic Adventures did in 1998. What does this mean for the game and players?
“Yes, you are right. Just like Sonic Adventure, our goal for Sonic Frontiers was to create a game that would be the cornerstone of future Sonic games. It is a brand-new approach for the franchise, but we have been conscious to honor Sonic’s roots as well – the game still needs to feel like a Sonic game.”
