We finally have a Knights of Honor II release date. It’s been more than 15 years since the original game was released back in 2005, but Knights of Honor II: Sovereign is now set to arrive on December 6th for PC via Steam. It’s being worked on by several staffers from the original game, too.
If you love games like Crusader Kings 3 and its many amusing updates (although perhaps not its DLC price hikes), then Knights of Honor II should probably be on your radar. THQ Nordic and developer Black Sea Games promise a strategy game that’s both oceanic in-depth and approachable in terms of accessibility; the publisher says you “will not have to spend 10 hours” to figure out how to play the game.
You’ll be able to choose from more than 200 medieval factions, including kingdoms, caliphates, and tsardoms, and manage your faction through wars, diplomacy, and the development of religion. If you want to wage total war, you can do that, but if you’d rather take a more economical or diplomatic approach, that option is available to you as well.
Much like Paradox’s grand strategy games (which shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that Paradox published the first game), Knights of Honor II plays out in real-time. You can lead your armies into battle, appoint various subordinates to look after your kingdom, and meet other rulers, adopting whatever attitude towards them you choose.
Of course, Knights of Honor II will also support multiplayer, so you can play together with your friends. Whether you backstab them or choose to maintain good diplomatic relations with them is up to you, though. Personally, I’d keep my friends close and my enemies closer.
