If you’ve been living under a rock, you might have missed the arrival of the Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. And judging by the collection, it is something not worth missing out for video game fanatics, enthusiasts and aficionados.
Now what is it you may ask? Well, the answer in short is that it’s a retro collection. However, that strips away all the goodness that the 50-year anniversary celebration has in store for fans.
Instead, the better answer is that it’s an interactive journey or a museum that transports players to a rich history-filled world featuring several elements from one of the most iconic names in gaming.
The collection comes with over 100 games spanning seven platforms which includes the Atari 2600, 5200 and more. These titles have been redesigned by developers Digital Eclipse to feature modern quality of life enhancements and emulations in order to preserve them. Some of the most popular titles from the collection include Asteroids, Adventure, Combat and more.
Along with that, the developers will also be introducing six new games in Swordquest: AirWorld, Haunted Houses, VCTR-SCTR, Neo Breakout, Quadratank and Yars’ Revenge Reimagined.
However, even with all the games, the Atari 50’s biggest selling point is the interactive timeline, which acts as a museum for players to take a look back at history. The timeline features several archival footages, images, and behind the scenes content that detail the games and the platforms they were played on. Furthermore, it also includes over an hour of exclusive video from early designers and people from the video game industry, who talk about the influence that Atari had on gaming.
The Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Atari VCS.
