The SEC is including a ninth conference game to its football schedule beginning in 2026, one thing Alabama athletics director Greg Byrne is shopping for into.
In a press release launched on social media, Byrne mentioned the transfer reveals how the SEC is responding to the altering panorama of faculty soccer as a complete.
“The implementation of a nine-game Southeastern Convention soccer schedule illustrates our league’s dedication to evolving with the altering panorama and creating much more high-profile matchups,” Byrne wrote on X, previously often known as Twitter. “It is a win for our program, student-athletes, followers and all of faculty soccer.”
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the SEC introduced it’s going to implement a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2026. The SEC can be mandating that every faculty schedule a minimum of one Energy 4 opponent or Notre Dame every season.
“With the addition of a ninth SEC sport, we are going to consider our future nonconference schedules,” Byrne continued.
SEC groups will face three convention opponents yearly, whereas taking part in its last six convention video games towards a rotation of the remainder of the convention groups.
