Already reeling from a number of accidents earlier this season, the Indiana Fever lost another key performer in Sunday’s 99-93 victory over the Connecticut Solar.
Sophie Cunningham suffered the damage early within the second interval when Solar guard Bria Hartley fell into her proper knee whereas attempting to drive the basket. Play continued as Cunningham grabbed her proper leg and hopped to the baseline, then fell to the ground, grabbing her knee and yelling in ache.
“I am like, ‘Holy s—,'” Fever coach Stephanie White mentioned of the second Cunningham went down.
The Fever known as timeout, and Cunningham was rapidly surrounded by her teammates, who held up towels to protect her from the gang. The guard was finally helped off the ground and to the locker room. She didn’t return. White mentioned Cunningham would have an MRI on Monday.
Indiana has been without star guard Caitlin Clark, who hasn’t seen sport motion since July 15 as a result of a groin damage. Guards Aari McDonald (proper foot) and Sydney Colson (left knee) suffered season-ending accidents on July 30 at Phoenix.
The Fever (19-17) is in seventh slot within the WNBA standings with eight making the playoffs. The Solar (6-27) had been formally eradicated from the postseason with the loss.
Cunningham was injured within the second quarter of the Fever’s sport vs. the Solar, trailing Connecticut 28-13. She clutched her proper knee after Hartley fell into her leg, and finally needed to be helped off the court docket.
Cunningham is averaging 8.9 factors and three.6 rebounds for the Fever this season, whereas averaging slightly below 26 minutes per sport.
