CHICAGO (AP) — The opener of a four-game sequence between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox on Thursday evening was postponed due to rain.
It will likely be made up as a part of a break up doubleheader on Friday.
Cleveland’s Logan Allen and Chicago All-Star Shane Smith are scheduled to start out the opener, with the Guardians’ Gavin Williams and Jonathan Cannon getting the ball within the nightcap.
Cleveland is fourth within the AL Central at 43-48. The Guardians swept three video games at Houston after shedding 10 in a row.
Chicago is an American League-worst 31-62.
The White Sox had been to debut “45” uniform patches in honor of late nearer Bobby Jenks. They’ll put on them for the rest of the season.
A World Collection champion and two-time All-Star, Jenks died Friday in Sintra, Portugal, the place he was being handled for adenocarcinoma, a type of abdomen most cancers. He was 44.
Jenks was on the mound for the ultimate out in Sport 4 of the 2005 World Collection at Houston, giving Chicago its first title since 1917. Members of the championship workforce are reuniting in Chicago to have a good time the twentieth anniversary of the title run. The White Sox are scheduled to unveil a statue of former ace Mark Buehrle on Friday.
