It appears Konami might have leaked a Silent Hill 2 remake ahead of its Silent Hill Transmission, which begins later this evening. It also looks as though the Silent Hill 2 remake could be a PlayStation console exclusive. Updated
Update:
Konami has now announced a remake of Silent Hill 2, which will be a PS5 console exclusive for 12 months. The remake is being developed by Bloober Team, with Mateusz Lenart leading the project.
“Silent Hill 2 is a cult classic, and it’s widely recognised as one of the best games ever made,” Lenart said. “We want Silent Hill 2 to make the same strong impression today that the original game did 21 years ago.
“While we want to achieve the same end result, players’ expectations evolve over time, and certain things need to be modernised to have the same or similar effect. For example, that’s why we went with the over- the-shoulder camera so we can immerse players into the game world as much as possible.”
Original Story:
Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission, which promises to bring “the latest news for the Silent Hill series,” begins later this evening at 2pm PDT/5pm EDT/10pm BST. However, it looks like some of what Konami was planning to reveal was leaked early — by Konami itself.
Konami seemingly leaks Silent Hill 2 remake
Several Twitter users, including Rebs Gaming, noticed that the description for Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission initially included, below the link to the Silent Hill portal site, two lines of text reading “Silent Hill 2, PlayStation Store,” suggesting that a link to that game’s PlayStation Store page would be included once the reveal had gone live. This text has since been removed from the video description, but not before it was spotted and posted on Twitter.
As Rebs Gaming also points out, Resetera user Modiz found mentions of PlayStation and Steam by inspecting the video’s code, but there seems to be no mention of Xbox. There’s also a mention of something called Silent Hill: Ascension, suggesting another project that may be revealed during this evening’s Silent Hill transmission. Last month, we also saw a new Silent Hill game leaked via the Korean ratings board; perhaps we’ll see a mention of this “Silent Hill: The Short Message” this evening too.
There are still a fair few hours to go before Konami officially reveals the “latest news” for the Silent Hill series — what do you expect to see? Do you think any Silent Hill remake might skip Xbox altogether? Let us know in the comments!
