Warner Bros. Games has announced that the release window for Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed into next year.
“Hogwarts Legacy will launch on February 10, 2023 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The Nintendo Switch launch date will be revealed soon,” the publisher confirmed in a Twitter update. “The team is excited for you to play, but we need a little more time to deliver the best possible game experience.”
Avalanche Software community manager Chandler Wood added in a video message: “You may be disappointed that the game has been pushed out of 2022, but we’re excited to finally give you a release date you can look forward to. We’re excited about what we’re creating here at the studio, and we just need a little bit more time to deliver the best possible experience to everyone. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work on the game, and we can’t wait to bring you Hogwarts Legacy early next year.”
Avalanche Software is behind this open-world, action role-playing game, which is set in the 1800s wizarding world. Promising to be “filled with immersive magic that puts players at the centre of their own adventure,” you play as a brand new fifth-year student who has a unique ability to manipulate powerful ancient magic.
You will set out on a dangerous journey to discover a hidden truth of the wizarding world, with your character’s abilities growing throughout your adventure – whether that be mastering powerful spells, brewing potions or harvesting magical plants.
Confronted with deadly enemies, you will also have the chance to meet new friends who can accompany you, interact with school professors and face dangers that may jeopardise the future of wizardkind.
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features as below:
- Explore an Open World: The wizarding world awaits you. Freely roam Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and the surrounding Overland area.

Hogwarts Legacy will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2023.
