Xenoblade Chronicles 3 had just launched, and critics have been giving the game some rave reviews. While this game feels like the culmination of all the Xenoblade games that have come before it, director Tetsuya Takahashi continues to tease the future of the franchise.
In an e-mail shared by Monolith Soft to its customers in Japan (via Nintendo Everything), Takahashi wrote:
Thanks to your support, we’ve released the third Xenoblade title, twelve years after the original Xenoblade was released for the Wii in 2010. Xenoblade 3 has been called the culmination of the whole series up until now, and it truly is the culmination. We at Monolith have put everything we have cultivated over the past twelve years into it.
Takahashi says that the third game is the stopping point for him, but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be the end of the Xenoblade series. His letter continues:
While it is a conclusion, that does not mean it is the end of the Xenoblade series. It is just a stopping point in my mind. I think that everyone who played this title and the additional stories in the Expansion Pass can imagine what lies in the future for Xenoblade.
We don’t know exactly where the franchise is going, but as Takahashi suggests, we’ll have tois set to come out sometime next year. In the meantime, we can enjoy the critically praised Xenoblade 3 which is currently getting all the hype on the Switch now.
