We still haven’t heard anything official on the GoldenEye 007 remaster from Rare or Microsoft, but an insider now claims that the game is still “in limbo” because of the Russia/Ukraine war.
Ever since we picked up the GoldenEye 007 achievements back in January, it’s been radio silence from both Microsoft and Rare, but we have had smaller updates from reputable insiders. The latest comes from Jeff Grubb, who, replying to a question on Twitter, claims that the GoldenEye 007 remaster is on hold because of the war.
Where is the GoldenEye 007 remaster?
Goldeneye is still in limbo because of the war. 1 v 100’s team lead left Microsoft. I don’t know what that means for the game.

In March, Grubb said he believed that because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the remaster’s announcement had “probably been put on hold due to GoldenEye’s Soviet/Russian-military-heavy plot and characters.” Grubb now claims that “GoldenEye is still in limbo because of the war.”
GoldenEye 007 was a no-show during the recent Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, and we haven’t heard a peep from Microsoft on the game. However, we did see the GoldenEye 007 achievement list suddenly pop up on the Xbox website, along with several new achievement names and art.
Interestingly, Grubb’s reply also mentions the 1 vs 100 remake, which Grubb previously said is “definitely” happening. Grubb now says that 1 vs 100’s team lead has left Microsoft and that he “doesn’t know what that means for the game.” Windows Central’s Jez Corden claims that Jeff Teper is now leading the team.
GoldenEye 007 celebrates its 25th anniversary on August 25th, which just so happens to be bang in the middle of this year’s Gamescom, which Microsoft is attending. Hopefully, we’ll hear more on the remaster then.
