Bungie and NetEase may be working together on a Destiny mobile game according to to a rumour. The rumour states that NetEase Games has teamed up with Bungie for a first-person shooter mobile game and anonymous sources are claiming that this game will be an addition to the Destiny series.
An artist working at NetEase shared on their LinkedIn profile that they have helped Bungie in developing “an unannounced FPS mobile game.” This comes via The Game Post, which is also reporting that “a source with knowledge of NetEase’s development plan” has told the outlet that the Destiny title has been in development “for well over two years now.” The report also states that the mobile game in question will be in the Destiny series, but will not be related to Destiny 2.
This comes following rumours from some months ago that stated Bungie was recruiting team members for a big mobile game title in the Destiny franchise. The official job listings revealed that Bungie was reportedly looking to hire an art director, an executive producer, and a senior test manager to work on an upcoming Destiny game. The requirements stated that the company was looking for candidates who had experience with AAA mobile gaming titles, as well as them being an expert with the Destiny IP.
Last month, a leak revealed that the new Destiny project could be codenamed ‘Goliath’. Another job listing, this time for the role of a principal producer, revealed that the responsibilities for the position would include things such as “Fostering an understanding of ‘Goliath’ goals and vision across your teams,” and “Work with the ‘Goliath’ Leadership Team and other Producers to help define and deliver on the roadmap of future Destiny releases”. The listing was later updated and all mentions of the term ‘Goliath’ were removed.
