Swedish video game developers DICE recently broke the hearts of Mirror’s Edge fans by revealing that the company isn’t planning on developing any titles of the hit parkour franchise anytime soon.
The first title of the series arrived in 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC with rave reviews from critics and casuals. Later on in 2016, DICE launched a reboot for the title in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, with a new origin story for the series protagonist Faith.
It’s been around six years since DICE last released a title in the Mirror’s Edge, and since then, the developers have pushed three Battlefield titles, with the most recent being Battlefield 2042.
In a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, new DICE chief Rebecka Coutaz confirmed that the team is working hard to bring Battlefield 2042 to a better state, following its disastrous launch.
With the studio focusing on its latest launch, the company has decided to put many of their franchises on the backburner, which includes Mirror’s Edge as well.
At the moment, the developers are looking to spend the next few months at improving the latest title in the Battlefield franchise, which has been marred by several issues from launch. However, with franchises like Star Wars Battlefront and Mirror’s Edge taking a backseat, fans are sure to be disappointed, as these titles received positive response from fans compared to the recent shoddy titles from the Battlefield franchise in Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042.
