Catching ’em all sounds a lot easier than it actually is, especially for Pokemon GO players.
With hundreds of ‘Mon to catch and new Pokemon being added every month, it’s hard to keep up with the ever-expanding Pokedex. This is even when you don’t consider the hard-to-get Pokemon.
Luckily, a few rare Pokemon have become much easier to get recently.

Axew was in 1-Star Raids during Pokemon GO Fest 2022 and now both Tirtouga and Archen are in 7km Adventure Week eggs. This means that they aren’t quite as rare as they used to be!
So without further ado, here are our top 10 rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO. As there’s no definitive way of ranking their rarity, we’ve ordered them by how difficult we think they are to catch!

10. Mr. Rime

Mr. Rime is one of the rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO right now for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, you can only evolve it from Galarian Mr. Mime, which hasn’t been available to get in-game since December 2021.
Additionally, you need 50 Mr. Mime Candy to evolve it into Mr. Rime. This is particularly difficult for players outside of Europe as Mr. Mime doesn’t usually spawn outside of that particular continent.

9. Noibat & Noivern

Like some of the other rarest Pokemon on this list, the easiest way to get Noibat is by hatching eggs, although it is a very rare spawn in the wild.
Specifically, Noibat is currently in the Pokemon GO 10km egg pool.
Noibat is a rare spawn from the egg, so you’ll be lucky to catch one in the first place. However, if you want to evolve it into Noivern, you’ll need a whopping 400 Noibat Candy.
8. Salandit & Salazzle

If you want to add Salazzle to your Pokedex in Pokemon GO, you’ll first need to get Salandit.
This Pokemon can also only be hatched as a rare spawn from a 12km Team Rocket egg but that’s the least of your problems.
You can only evolve a female Salandit into Salazze and it requires 50 Candy to do so. Let’s hope you don’t hatch a male one otherwise you’ll have to start walking again!

7. Meltan & Melmetal

Meltan is one of the rarest Pokemon in the game as it can only be obtained through completing the Let’s GO, Meltan Special Research quest or by opening Mystery Boxes.
Then, you’ll need 400 Meltan Candy to evolve it into Melmetal!

6. Unown

Unown can be found in the wild in extremely rare circumstances but this elusive Pokemon only usually spawns during events like Pokemon GO Fest.
To make matters even worse, there are 28 different forms of Unown! This makes collecting all of them a near-impossible task!

5, 4 & 3. Azelf, Mesprit & Uxie – The Lake Guardians

Now, for a triple entry! The only Legendaries on our list of rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO, this trio are hard to get for a particular reason.
Usually, catching a Legendary Pokemon is just a matter of waiting until it comes round in Raids. However, Azelf, Mesprit and Uxie are all region-exclusive, meaning they only appear in certain parts of the world.

- Azelf – Americas and Greenland
- Mesprit – Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India
- Uxie – Asia and Pacific regions

2. Rotom

Rotom has only ever appeared in Pokemon GO once so far. That was when Wash Rotom had a photobomb encounter during Pokemon GO Fest 2020.
Therefore, if you missed it, there’s been no way of getting Rotom in Pokemon GO since, making it one of the rares Pokemon in the game.
However, a datamine has revealed that a new Rotom form is coming to Pokemon GO soon!
1. Pikachu Libre

While this may not technically be a Pokemon in itself, this Pikachu costume has to be top of list of rarest Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
The coolest Pikachu costume in the game, it is also the hardest to obtain. You’ll need to reach Rank 24 in the GO Battle League to add this ‘Mon to your Pokedex!
It’s no wonder that players are paying insane money to buy shiny Pikachu Libre on eBay!
