Hate is a strong word, but it’s one that we humans often use – even if we don’t necessarily hate “it.” Ever since Fortnite was released in 2017, it’s been constantly engaging its fans through collaborations with pop culture icons and big-name artists. This is done by releasing a wide range of cosmetics that players can show off in-game. As of March 2022, there are approximately 1,290 skins for Fortnite. You would think that Epic Games has it all, but success hasn’t been constantly guaranteed for the company. Despite being only cosmetic items that offer no tactical advantage, certain skins have earned a bad reputation in Fortnite and this article will go over the most Hated Fortnite Skins.
- Anime Skins
The Fortnite community has been candid about their likes and dislikes. Since the beginning, we’ve seen many skins in Fortnite come and go. Keeping that in mind, T5G (Top 5 Gaming) asked the people over on Twitter to name their most hated skin. The community responded with vigor. As with everything on Twitter, the Fortnite fans on that platform are active and quick to point out anything that doesn’t sit particularly well with them.
Players had a few choice words to utter when it came to the Megumi, Chigusa, and Yuki skins, also known as anime skins. They were initially unveiled during the 6th Season of Fortnite, and fans were immediately disgusted by what they saw. Why are they so hated, you ask? The answer lies in the cell-shaded graphics that Epic developed for these characters. Not only did they look out of place in Fortnite’s metaverse, but it made them appear fake.
- Soccer Skins
Soccer skins have always been abhorred, and that’s still the case now. This is especially true for female versions. Besides being hated amongst the community for their basic designs, other players believed using these skins makes their hitbox smaller. Of course, that was all a hoax.
Besides this category, many skin enthusiasts dislike the Banner and Superhero skins due to the “smaller hitbox” reasoning. Plus, there was a time when many players misused Superhero skins to gain an unfair advantage over their opponents, resulting in Epic revising them.
- Travis Scott
There’s no other character skin that boils the blood of many Fortnite players than Travis Scott. Ironically, he was previously ranked amongst the best skin sets for the battle royale, but that all changed when Astroworld saw nine individuals lose their lives with others injured.
This fiasco prompted a substantial controversy as thousands rallied for lawsuits against the artist. Heck, the chaos even reached Fortnite and players demanded Epic Games remove the Travis Scott skin in the game. The company obliged with this demand.
The Travis Scott skin was introduced during the pandemic when he hosted an in-game concert that became famous within the whole gaming community. In-game concerts weren’t a new thing in Fortnite – even Marsmello and Ariana Grande had one. But the visuals at Travis’ concert were truly next level. Thousands of people clamored to get Travis’ unlockable character for 1,500 V-Bucks, but ever since the Astroworld controversy, the skin is no longer available for purchase.
If you’re one of those that have this skin after everything that ensued, you now have one of the rarest cosmetics in Fortnite. You’ll hardly notice anyone using it at this time, though, since most if not all users would get heavily criticized for simply equipping Travis Scott in a match. If you don’t want to get trash-talked to oblivion by randoms, it’s best just to let it gather some dust in your inventory for now.
- The Boundless Skin
Imagine having a playable character you could customize in-game – that’s what Epic Games dreamt of when they made the Boundless Set and introduced Backlash to the Fortnite players. However, the dream soon turned into a nightmare when competitors started using an All-White or All-Black design for Backlash. This is because when players do this, Backlash’s avatar is drastically harder to see, thereby disrupting online matches. In the end, Epic was forced to revise the skin from their store.
- Dynamo
If you asked any avid Fortnite player what’s the most loathed skin in the game, nine times out of ten, their answer would be Dynamo. If you post a clip of you wearing the said skin in a match, you’re guaranteed to be torn to shreds in the comments section.
We’re not exactly sure how the hatred for Dynamo began and how it got its current status, but perhaps it’s due to it being a very “sweaty” skin – for context, being labeled as “sweaty” means that you’re a tryhard.
For whatever reason, wearing a Dynamo skin during matches is like putting a “Kick Me” sign on your back. If you jump off the Battle Bus wearing Dynamo, you better be as good as the skin suggests you are.
Can We Expect More Hated Skins in the Future?
As Fortnite continues to grow as a platform, the number of skins is likely to soar. There’s a strong fanbase for Epic’s battle royale title right now, as it stands firm as one of the best in its genre. Who knows? When the tenth anniversary of Fortnite comes around, we might have to update the list with more skins that gamers detest.
