Sony expects its acquisition of Bungie to close out by the end of 2022, according to financial report it published today.
While forecasting for the 2022 fiscal year, the report states “This forecast is based on the assumption that the acquisition of Bungie, Inc., which is currently under review by the relevant authority, will close in the third quarter ending December 31, 2022.”
The review in question is the FTC’s investigation, which was recently announced. While it doesn’t appear to be something that PlayStation ought to be concerned about, it does point to the potential of more scrutiny to come from the FTC.
Especially considering the number of large acquisitions the game industry has already had this year. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is also currently under review from the FTC.
It is worth noting though that it remains likely both Sony’s and Microsoft’s acquisitions will get through to the other side of those investigations.
