The Lamar College ladies's basketball group is one win away from finishing its Southland Convention dominance and incomes a bid to the NCAA event.
After sitting atop the Southland standings all season lengthy, the Cardinals earned their approach into the league's championship sport with an 83-58 semifinal win over Texas A&-Commerce on Wednesday in Lake Charles.
It marks the second straight season that Lamar has superior to the Southland title sport. The Cardinals misplaced the 2023 convention championship to Southeastern Louisiana. This 12 months, they'll face Texas A&M Corpus-Christi for the event title.

"We knew we needed to get again to the championship sport once we walked off that ground final 12 months,” Lamar head coach Aqua Franklin stated. “We’re able to tackle that second.”
5 Lamar gamers completed in double-figures scoring Wednesday, led by recently-named Southland Participant of the Yr Akasha Davis, who piled up 23 factors and 11 rebounds.
R'Mani Taylor was equally spectacular for the Cardinals with 21 factors, whereas Sabria Dean added a double-double with 17 factors and 13 rebounds.

"Our group is absolutely harmful as a result of we’ve got lots of people that may rating the ball,” Franklin stated.

Any ideas of a Commerce comeback have been rapidly erased as Lamar managed the fourth quarter. The Cardinals completed off their semifinal win by outscoring the Lions, 23-9 within the closing interval.
Lamar is searching for its first journey to the NCAA ladies's basketball event since 2010. The Cardinals gained the Southland Convention that 12 months beneath then-head coach, Larry Tidwell.

Franklin now hopes her group can add to Lamar's quick record of Southland event champions. The Cardinals will face Corpus-Christi at 4 p.m. Thursday on the Legacy Middle in Lake Charles.
"We’d like yet one more (win)," she stated. "We'll combat tooth and nail to ensure we stroll away with that championship."
