The No. 3 Texas Longhorns<\/a> came into the season with the goal to win the Big 12, believing that would set them up for a chance to play for a national championship.
Four months, 12 wins, and one Big 12 Trophy later, their belief was rewarded with a berth in the College Football Playoffs and the hard work will seemingly pay off in their matchup with the Washington Huskies<\/a> in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Monday, vying for a spot in the CFP Championship. Both teams are battle-tested, with Washington knocking off the Oregon Ducks<\/a> not once, but twice in the year \u2014 somehow as the underdog in the final game \u2014 en route to an undefeated regular season. Conversely, Texas stumbled in Dallas against the Oklahoma Sooners<\/a> and looked shaky as they dealt with midseason injuries, but closed the season blistering hot, beating Texas Tech and Oklahoma State by a combined 106-28 in their final two games.
So now, after a month of media coverage, rest, and prep time, the teams square off in the Sugar Bowl<\/a> to determine who will play the winner of Michigan and Alabama for the National TItle.
