Today Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that 50 million PS5 units have been sold through to customers worldwide.<\/p>\n

The announcement, made via press release, specifies that the impressive milestone has been reached on December 9.<\/p>\n

We also hear that the console has “experienced strong momentum this year.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Interestingly, we learn that November 2023 set a record for PlayStation units sold in the key Holiday month in the history of the brand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The press release includes a comment from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, who will leave the post soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we\u2019re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since launch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles \u2013 so anyone who wants to get one can get one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Among the drivers of the recent momentum, Sony cites Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2,\u00a0Baldur\u2019s Gate 3,\u00a0Alan Wake 2,\u00a0EA SPORTS FC 24<\/em>, and Roblox.<\/em><\/p>\n

The news comes a mere 5 months after Sony announced that the console had sold through to customers over 40 million units. Moving 10 million units in that timeframe certainly isn’t a bad achievement.<\/p>\n

It’s worth mentioning that the latest sell-in (sales to retailers) figure was 46.6 Million as of September 30, 2023.<\/p>\n

Of course, comparing sell-through with sell-in isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, but it’s still a decent indicator of how fast the console has been flying off the shelves from October onward.<\/p>\n

It’s worth mentioning that Sony plans to sell in 25 million units in the fiscal year between April 2023 and March 2024.<\/p>\n

In the latest financial conference call, CFO and COO Hiroki Totoki, who will take on PlayStation’s leadership in the interim between Ryan’s departure and the advent of a new CEO, described the goal as a challenging one to achieve.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
