Geoff Keighley\u2019s annual video game awards return for its 10th year
The Game Awards 2023<\/a>, the 10th edition of Geoff Keighley\u2019s annual video game awards show and showcase of upcoming games, returns on Dec. 7. This year\u2019s Game Awards promises \u201can incredible lineup of world premiere announcements and trailers,\u201d as well as live performances and the awards themselves.
What will be at this year\u2019s Game Awards? In terms of new reveals, organizers haven\u2019t outright teased which games (or video-game-adjacent TV shows or movies) might have reveals. Sega is rumored to show something new, as is Dishonored<\/em> and Deathloop<\/em> developer Arkane Studios. We also know we\u2019ll finally get a release date for Baldur\u2019s Gate 3<\/em> on Xbox.
In terms of presenters, we know some of the folks who will be joining Geoff Keighley on stage this year to present awards: musician Zedd, voice actor Christopher Judge, Respawn Studios founder Vince Zampella, and Gonzo from The Muppets.
The Game Awards 2022 was a big one, with announcements and reveals<\/a> from Death Stranding 2<\/em><\/a>, Hades 2<\/em><\/a>, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor<\/em><\/a>, Judas<\/em><\/a>, Final Fantasy 16<\/em><\/a>, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie<\/em><\/a>. There were other surprises, including appearances from Al Pacino<\/a> and The Last Of Us<\/em> stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
There are certainly plenty of big 2024 games coming up that could<\/em> be at The Game Awards 2023. It\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve heard anything about Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree<\/em><\/a>. Tekken 8<\/em> has yet to reveal any of its potential guest characters. And Square Enix might want to show off more about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth<\/em><\/a> ahead of its release. On the entertainment front, maybe we\u2019ll get a peek at Amazon\u2019s new Fallout<\/em> TV show<\/a>.
One thing\u2019s almost certain to show up at the 2023 Game Awards: more security to prevent people from rushing the stage<\/a>.
The Game Awards start on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. EST\/4:30 p.m. PST. The show will be streamed live via YouTube<\/a>, Twitch<\/a>, Facebook<\/a>, TikTok<\/a>, X (formerly known as Twitter)<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, and Steam<\/a>.
The shows typically run 3.5 hours, including a 30-minute pre-show. The Game Awards organizers have not announced how long the 2023 event will be, but expect something between three and four hours long.
The full list of The Game Awards nominees for 2023<\/a> was revealed in mid-November. Six games are up for the Game of the Year award, which typically closes out the show:
Baldur\u2019s Gate 3<\/em> and Alan Wake 2<\/em> lead the pack with eight nominations across all categories, followed by Spider-Man 2<\/em> with seven, Tears of the Kingdom <\/em>and Super Mario Bros. Wonder <\/em>with five, and the Resident Evil 4<\/em> remake <\/em>with three. Nintendo has the most nominations across all categories, having received 15.
2022\u2019s Game of the Year award winner<\/a> was Elden Ring<\/em><\/a>. FromSoftware\u2019s open-world action-role-playing game beat out A Plague Tale: Requiem<\/em>, God of War Ragnar\u00f6k<\/em>, Horizon Forbidden West<\/em>, Stray<\/em>, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3<\/em> at The Game Awards 2022.
