The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced an extension of the deadline for its final decision on the proposed Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard.<\/p>\n

Original, the UK regular was planning to deliver its ruling on the deal by July 18, but has now extended the date to August 29. <\/span><\/p>\n

The CMA considers that there is insufficient time remaining in the statutory period for full and proper consideration of Microsoft\u2019s submission on the proposed Order. <\/span><\/p>\n

As such, the Inquiry Group considers that there are special reasons to extend by six weeks\u2026 The revised period will therefore end on 29 August 2023. However, the Inquiry Group aims to discharge its duty as soon as possible and in advance of this date.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Back in April the CMA revealed it had blocked the merged in the UK, with Microsoft initially announcing plans to appeal the decision. However, it was revealed a few days ago that the console manufacturer and the CMA were now pausing legal actions and attempting to reach an out of court agreement.<\/p>\n

This latest development comes after Microsoft triumphed in its court battle with the FTC, who were looking to have the judge grant a preliminary injunction to block the deal in the US. <\/span>Yesterday it was revealed that the FTC had filed an injunction to delay the closure of the Microsoft and Activision merger, and the organisation is still in the process of appealing Tuesday\u2019s decision. <\/span><\/p>\n
