  Last December, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/12\/death-stranding-film-from-barbarian-producer-alex-lebovici-in-works-1235200209\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Deadline<\/em> reported that a Death Stranding movie was in the works<\/a>.&nbsp;Kojima Productions, the studio that made the original game, was set to be one of two main producers, but there was no word on who would write, direct, or star in the film, or if any members of the original creative team would occupy any of those roles. Yesterday, Death Stranding's game director&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN\/status\/1670389119208370176?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1670389119208370176%7Ctwgr%5E9f8279c621c60495fce94e4ee729dbd17524d3b8%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ign.com%2Farticles%2Fkojima-is-deeply-involved-in-the-death-stranding-movie\">Hideo Kojima took to Twitter<\/a> to clarify his involvement.\n<\/code><\/pre>\n

Here, Kojima confirms that he will not be directing the movie, but fans worried that Kojima Productions\u2019 involvement wouldn\u2019t involve\u00a0input from the man at its helm can rest easy.\u00a0In addition to his role as producer, Kojima will be \u201cdeeply involved\u201d with many other elements of the film, including its plot and overall aesthetics. While the movie takes place in the existing Death Stranding world, it will \u201cintroduce new elements and characters within the Death Stranding universe,\u201d according to Deadline<\/em>. Whether that consists of a retelling of an existing plot or an entirely new one is unclear, but it will certainly have that distinct Kojima touch.<\/p>\n
In addition to the film-focused branch of Kojima Productions, the film will be produced by Hammerstone Studios.\u00a0Founded in 2018, the studio\u2019s best-known films include Barbarian (2022) and Bill and Ted Face the Music (2020). The studio\u2019s founder, Alex Lebovici, had the following to say to Deadline <\/em>about the upcoming project:<\/p>\n
We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic \u201cHideo Kojima\u201d\u00a0production.<\/p>\n
Given the fact that the production teams have yet to\u00a0announce any director, writer or actor that\u2019s attached to the project (I\u2019m hoping it involves\u00a0Nicolas Cage<\/a>), it\u2019s still a few years out.
