The closest to a confirmed title currently is its internal codename: Polaris. At the time of writing, there is no confirmed Witcher 4 release date; however, our best guess is that we\u2019ll have to wait until the end of 2025 at the earliest.<\/strong> Given how long it took Cyberpunk 2077 to release, and that we\u2019re currently waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, we could be waiting a long time.<\/p>\n
There is also The Witcher Remake, a separate project made by Fool\u2019s Theory under CD Projekt Red\u2019s supervision. However, it\u2019s since been confirmed that the modernised version of Geralt\u2019s first adventure will arrive\u00a0after<\/em> The Witcher 4\u00a0and be built in the Unreal 5 engine. It will also release after the current Cyberpunk 2077 DLC,\u00a0announced during The Game Awards 2022.<\/p>\n

CD Projekt RED\u2019s press release\u00a0announced that the new The Witcher game will use Unreal Engine 5 instead of the studio\u2019s proprietary REDengine \u2013 which is what it\u2019s used for all past games until now.<\/p>\n
This is part of a \u201cmulti-year strategic partnership with Epic Games,\u201d which includes helping Epic \u201ctailor the engine for open-world experiences, beginning with the development of the next game in The Witcher franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n
Make of that what you will. However,\u00a0we have since gotten a confirmation that\u00a0The Witcher 4 will not be an Epic Games Store exclusive.<\/p>\n
Alongside this project, originally codenamed Polaris, we can expect two other titles set in The Witcher universe. However, these are spin-off titles rather than the subsequent games in the new trilogy. The first is codenamed Canis Majoris, while the other is codenamed \u2018Sirius\u2019.<\/p>\n

Other than confirming<\/a> the medallion in the teaser is, indeed, meant to be a lynx, as a nod to the School of the Lynx, before this announcement, all we had\u00a0was a business strategy report from 2021.\u00a0The studio revealed on Twitter<\/a> its plans to start \u201cparallel triple-A development\u201d in 2022, focusing on their \u201ctwo core franchises\u201d \u2013 The Witcher and Cyberpunk.<\/p>\n
In the report, SVP of business development Micha\u0142 Nowakowski explains, \u201cWe\u2019ll wait until much closer to our game\u2019s launch before we start showing things like trailers, demos, or going in depth about mechanics\u201d.<\/p>\n

Canis Majoris and Sirius are the codenames representing two upcoming titles in The Witcher series.\u00a0CD Projekt RED refers to Canis Majoris as a \u201cfull-fledged Witcher game\u201d<\/a>, which was revealed as a remake of\u00a0the first Witcher game.<\/p>\n
While we know little about Sirius, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Molasses Flood is developing it.\u00a0It\u2019s the studio behind the roguelike survival game The Flame in the Flood and the\u00a0co-op\u00a0game\u00a0Drake Hollow. So we\u2019d hazard a guess that survival could potentially be the aim of the game in Sirius, but that\u2019s just speculation. Regardless, CD Projekt RED claims Sirius \u201cwill\u00a0differ from our past productions, offering multiplayer gameplay on top of a single-player experience including a campaign with quests and a story,\u201d<\/a> which is sure to pique the interest of many\u00a0long-time Witcher fans.<\/p>\n
There isn\u2019t much more The Witcher 4 news, but let\u2019s focus on the positives. Despite what we were told even before the game\u2019s release, we may not have seen the end of The Witcher 3\u2019s protagonist, Geralt. \u201cWe are not killing the world and walking away from it,\u201d Iwinski said to Polygon during a 2013 tech demo, \u201cbut we definitely want to make this game the finale in a big way.\u201d Tantalisingly, he added,\u00a0\u201cWe might even include Geralt in later games, potentially.\u201d Any more of the White Wolf is a win in our book.<\/p>\n
