Apple has announced that \u201cTetris: The Movie\u201d will join its Apple+ streaming service lineup of films from award-winning storytellers. With a release date set for March 31, 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Starring Golden Globe Award-winner Taron Egerton (\u201cRocketman,\u201d \u201cKingsman\u201d franchise) and set to be directed by Jon S. Baird (\u201cStan & Ollie,\u201d \u201cFilth\u201d), the film will be produced by Matthew Vaughn\u2019s MARV and UNIGRAM, a sister company to AI Film in Blavatnik\u2019s Access Industries Group.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/p><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tetris \u2014 Official Trailer | Apple TV+<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTetris: The Movie\u201d follows the extraordinary journey one of the most iconic computer games in the world. The drama tells the compelling story of the creation of Tetris born from the imagination of computer programmer Alexey Pajitnov, during the fall of the Iron curtain in the USSR. Egerton will play Dutch-born video game entrepreneur Henk Rogers who secured the global rights to distribute Tetris on video game consoles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The original screenplay was written by two-time Emmy Award nominee Noah Pink (\u201cGenius, The Show\u201d). Matthew Vaughn (\u201cRocketman,\u201d \u201cKingsman\u201d franchise) will produce alongside Len Blavatnik (\u201cI,Tonya\u201d) and Unigram\u2019s Gregor Cameron (\u201cKill Your Friends\u201d) and Gillian Berrie (\u201cStarred Up, Outlaw King\u201d). Alwin K\u00fcchler (\u201cDivergent,\u201d upcoming \u201cPrisoner 760\u201d) will serve as cinematographer and Daniel Taylor (\u201cDream Horse,\u201d \u201cBritannia\u201d) will serve as production designer on the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The project reunites MARV\u2019s Matthew Vaughn and Taron Egerton following last year\u2019s critically acclaimed \u201cRocketman,\u201d which earned Egerton a Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award nomination. The two also previously collaborated on the \u201cKingsman\u201d franchise, with Egerton delivering a breakout performance in \u201cKingsman: The Secret Service,\u201d which Vaughn directed, co-wrote and produced, and continued through \u201cEddie the Eagle.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTetris: The Movie\u201d is the first project to come from 2019\u2019s tie-up between Unigram and AI Film, combining the creative reach of Unigram with AI Film\u2019s finance and structuring apparatus. The film received support from Screen Scotland to help bring the production to the country.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTetris: The Movie\u201d expands Apple\u2019s original film slate which includes the critically acclaimed \u201cOn The Rocks,\u201d from Academy Award-winner Sofia Coppola, and starring Bill Murray and Rashida Jones, and \u201cFireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds.\u201d Apple TV+ will also soon premiere anticipated films upcoming \u201cSwan Song\u201d a genre-bending film starring Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris; \u201cThe Sky is Everywhere\u201d starring Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones and Jason Segel; \u201cSnow Blind,\u201d with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star; Martin Scorsese\u2019s forthcoming \u201cKillers of the Flower Moon,\u201d starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro; \u201cEmancipation,\u201d from director Antoine Fuqua and starring and produced by Academy Award nominee Will Smith; \u201cSharper,\u201d a new film from A24, Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka, starring and produced by Academy Award winner Julianne Moore; and Anthony and Joe Russo\u2019s new film \u201cCherry,\u201d starring Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo.<\/p>\n<p>Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at\u00a0tv.apple.com, for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. Found it! It was called Tetris: The Games People Play. This looks like the movie version of that book, although the story of how Tetris came to the Nintendo Game Boy in the 1980\u2019s is widely known.
