Today Sony Interactive Entertainment shared that the recently-released Wizarding World<\/em> game Hogwarts Legacy <\/em>is getting a custom DualSense controller for PS5.<\/p>\n

This is actually rather rare, as not many custom PS5 controllers have been released so far. The announcement mentions that it’s going to be sold exclusively in the US and in the UK and in limited quantities via PlayStation Direct.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pre-orders will start tomorrow, February 10, at 10:00 am PDT in the United States with a release coming on February 28. You’ll be already able to purchase the controller tomorrow at 10:00 am GMT in Great Britain. We also get comments about it from Avalanche Software art director Jeff Bunker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with the PlayStation team on the creation of this new DualSense controller for the upcoming game, Hogwarts Legacy. Our goal was to bring a hint of the in-game experience into the player\u2019s hands\u2026literally. Many themes were considered, from the representation of the different houses, magic wands, beasts or even the sorting hat. But it was clear very early that we should focus on the star of the game, Hogwarts itself. So we centered the iconic castle and incorporated swirling motifs of Ancient Magic into the design, highlighting the player\u2019s special role within the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, we had a vision of a simple, clean and sophisticated aesthetic. White, blue, and aqua, amongst a number of other colors, were tried but in the end, we chose matte black as the primary color for the controller, not only because it contributed to our desired aesthetic, but also because it hints at the darker themes that players can expect in the game. To add a touch of authenticity, we incorporated old-gold Victorian intaglio etching into the designs of the castle and Ancient Magic swirls, highlighting the era in which the game takes place.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an exciting and fun process to bring a piece of the virtual world of Hogwarts Legacy into the real and interactive physical world of the controller. We can\u2019t wait for players to get their hands on it and fully immerse themselves in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hogwarts Legacy is set in the Wizarding World universe and based on the\u00a0Harry Potter\u00a0<\/em>franchise, but the story happens a long time before the books that have made it famous. Specifically, you play as a transfer student in the\u00a01890s, which is a rather unique perspective on the history of Hogwarts. Players will be able to join one of the iconic houses within the school as they investigate the mysteries of the ancient institution, making friends, and most likely enemies in the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s already available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 10, while gamers on PS4 and Xbox One will have to wait until April 4\u00a0following a recent delay. Those who want to play on Nintendo Switch will have to wait the longest, with the release date on the hybrid console set for July 25, 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Recently, we heard about the\u00a0graphics modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, on top of the\u00a0system requirements for the PC version, which will also include the infamous Denuvo DRM. Warner Bros. Games also provided some\u00a0juicy details about the voice cast, a\u00a0rather spiffy cinematic trailer, and\u00a0the launch trailer.<\/p>\n
