Gearbox Software\u2019s recently released Borderlands\u00a0<\/em>spin-off game Tiny Tina\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>Wonderlands\u00a0<\/em>earned a reasonably positive reception from fans and critics. The PC version\u2019s Metacritic score sits at 79, and the Steam user score is at a solid \u201cmostly positive.\u201d While fans do not feel positive<\/em> about every aspect of the game, it has still, by all accounts, turned out a success, especially from a commercial standpoint. And now, Gearbox Software has made it clear that it absolutely sees Tiny Tina\u2019s Wonderlands\u00a0<\/em>as a success. The company has already started referring to\u00a0Tiny Tina\u2019s Wonderlands\u00a0<\/em>as \u201ca new franchise,\u201d which means that players can expect to see \u201cnew experiences\u201d involving the IP going forward.<\/p>\n

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford discussed the game\u2019s performance and franchise potential at a meeting held by Embracer Group, Gearbox\u2019s parent company. He stated that Gearbox \u201c\u2018achieved a major victory’\u201d with Tiny Tina\u2019s Wonderlands<\/em>, which managed to exceed the developer\u2019s expectations and then some with its strong sales and overall reception. Additionally, he confirmed that Gearbox has already begun developing additional experiences that will serve to help the brand grow.<\/p>\n

What could come next?<\/h2>\n

Pitchford could be referring to any number of things when using the word \u201cexperiences.\u201d For example, it might allude to future DLC plans rather than a new game altogether. Even so, it seems inevitable that\u00a0Tiny Tina\u2019s Wonderlands <\/em>will receive a sequel at some point considering its new \u2018franchise\u2019 label.<\/p>\n

Overall, this news will undoubtedly be met with cheers by some and groans by others, mainly those who do not enjoy Borderlands<\/em>\u2018 brand of humor. Even I have to admit that Borderlands <\/em>humor does not do much for me, and I tend to dislike the idea of an entire spin-off franchise centering around a fan-favorite side character. But Tiny Tina\u2019s Wonderlands<\/em> clearly has an audience, and if that audience wants it to become a franchise, then there\u2019s really no harm in letting it happen.<\/p>\n
