Image: Steamforged Games<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\nPresumptive GOTY Elden Ring<\/em> is, in perhaps the least surprising piece of news that I\u2019ll write for this site today, getting a board game adaptation<\/span>.<\/p>\nIt won\u2019t be the first Souls<\/em>-like to get the tabletop treatment, of course. Back in 2016 a Dark Souls<\/em> board game raised over $200,000 on Kickstarter in under <\/span>two hours<\/em><\/span> <\/em>(it would go on to raise over $4 million<\/em>, having asked for…$55,000 in funding. <\/p>\nElden Ring<\/em> is being handled by the same designers behind Dark Souls<\/em>\u2014Steamforged Games\u2014and will be hitting Kickstarter soon (the page is up now<\/span>, but the campaign itself isn\u2019t live). While details are pretty thin at this stage, one thing that already sounds cool is the way combat is being handled, with dice out the window in favour of:<\/p>\n\nLike the video game, the ELDEN RING\u2122 board game will immerse players in the forsaken Lands Between. In a vast, sprawling world of decaying grandeur that unfolds through their exploration, 1-4 \u2018Tarnished\u2019 players will embark on a huge and varied adventure, visiting iconic locations and crossing paths with familiar enemies and characters. <\/p>\n
The video game\u2019s characteristically challenging fights will be recreated by intelligent dice-free combat, requiring players to strategise and adapt their plans during each encounter \u2014 whether that be a lowly Godrick Soldier or the Grafted King himself. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Steamforged have made a name for themselves over the last few years, adapting a whole ton of video games, from Dark Souls <\/em>(twice, as a board and card game) to Horizon Zero Dawn<\/em> to games based on both Resident Evil 2<\/em> and Resident Evil 3<\/em>. So I guess we can assume that, even if this doesn\u2019t end up quite as acclaimed as the source material, its creators at least understand what makes a video game tick on the tabletop. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
