Game publisher Sunsoft, best known in the West for 8-bit era games like Blaster Master<\/em>, Batman<\/em>, and Fester\u2019s Quest<\/em>, is attempting a return to publishing and developing video games. On Thursday, the new Sunsoft \u2014 which, technically, never went away \u2014 outlined its plan to rerelease and revive its classic game catalog, starting with the Vampire Survivors<\/em>-inspired Ikki Unite<\/em> and releases of beloved retro games Gimmick!<\/em> and Ufouria<\/em> (known as Hebereke<\/em> in Japan) for modern platforms.<\/p>\n

Sunsoft is even hinting at bringing back Aero the Acro-Bat, the anthropomorphic bat who appeared in a pair of Sega Genesis and Super NES games near the peak of the console mascot platformer.<\/p>\n

The publisher\u2019s first game under the new plan, Ikki Unite<\/em>, is a sequel of sorts to Ikki<\/em>, an arcade game (that was later ported to Nintendo\u2019s Famicom) about a medieval Japanese farming village\u2019s uprising against its feudal overlord. Ikki Unite<\/em> will expand upon the original single-player game with online multiplayer, and is unmistakably inspired \u2014 if not outright copying \u2014 2021\u2019s smash hit Vampire Survivors<\/em>.<\/p>\n
