Imagine a Nintendo controller compatible with PlayStation, Xbox, and PC<\/strong>. That\u2019s precisely what Nintendo was working on up until three years ago, according to former president\u00a0Reggie Fils-Aim\u00e9. Inspired by the Xbox adaptive controller, Nintendo set out to design something similar as part of an industry-wide push towards making gaming more inclusive.\u00a0Fils-Aim\u00e9 told Inverse in a recent interview that the controller would have been \u201cplatform-agnostic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is the multiplatform Nintendo controller still in the works?<\/h2>\n

Fils-Aim\u00e9 left Nintendo in April 2019 and is unsure if the company is still working on the multiplatform adaptive controller. However, he personally hopes that the project is still alive.\u00a0\u201cMy hope is that the effort has continued. I\u2019m not sure if it has or has not,\u201d Fils-Aim\u00e9 told Inverse. \u201cBut also, my hope is that controller \u2014 and the ability for that controller to connect with all of the various systems \u2014 is launched and shared with consumers as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fils-Aim\u00e9 went on to say that he feels that universal solutions are needed to make gaming more inclusive. \u201cI do believe the best solution is an industry solution that can work for all of the dedicated gaming platforms and for PC, and can truly be tailored to the player depending on their physical capabilities and what they can do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Xbox\u2019s adaptive controller has been universally praised. Sony has yet to announce a similar initiative but\u00a0Fils-Aim\u00e9\u2019s statement indicates that Sony may have been part of the \u201cindustry-wide\u201d push. Here\u2019s hoping that we see a PS5 adaptive controller in the near future.<\/p>\n
