Several new Dune games have been in the works following the successful release of the movie last year, with strategy game Dune: Spice Wars out now in early access\u00a0\u2013 but there\u2019s also a Dune MMO game coming, and now we may have got\u00a0our first idea of what the villainous Harkonnens could look like in\u00a0that game.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve known for a long time that a Dune MMO survival game is in development at\u00a0Funcom, the team behind Conan Exiles. However, in the last two years, we haven\u2019t even seen a single piece of artwork from the new Dune.<\/p>\n

Now, two artists working at Funcom have revealed a detailed 3D model for a character called Captain\u00a0Iakin Nefud Harkonnen. While they do label it as \u201cfan art\u201d (quotes theirs),\u00a0Rui Pereira is a 3D character artist at Funcom working on Conan Exiles and Dune, and 3D hair artist\u00a0Andre Pires also confirms he is working on Dune. Consequently, it at least gives fans a possible idea as to where the Dune game is going in terms of character designs \u2013 who knows,\u00a0this captain may even appear in the final game.<\/p>\n

While Harkonnen\u2019s design is influenced more by the 1984 David Lynch movie than the 2021 one, Pereira says that he \u201cintroduced some newer elements to give it a more modern vibe\u201d while\u00a0aiming for the \u201cfeel of the Harkonnens.\u201d He says that the character is someone \u201cwho encapsulates Harkonnens soul, making him decadent and hardened by battles but also with a smirk as to say: \u2018I will not be defeated easily\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

While neither artist offers any direct insight about Funcom\u2019s game, other than reconfirming it as\u00a0\u201ca survival game based on the Dune IP,\u201d this art is pretty much the only Dune-related thing to come out of the Funcom team since the project\u2019s announcement. Hopefully, we\u2019ll get a proper look at the Dune MMO sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

As for Dune: Spice Wars, it\u2019s currently in early access and just released its big multiplayer update\u00a0with the fifth faction on its way sometime this summer. We\u2019re betting on House Corrino.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
