The Xbox Bethesda showcase\u00a0is sure to bring some Starfield news please, but many fans (including us) are hoping to finally get a Wolfenstein 3 reveal. Even if it does, it\u2019ll likely still be a long way off, but what might ease the wait is a Return to Castle Wolfenstein ray tracing mod.<\/p>\n

The newer Wolfenstein games by Machine Games are fantastic but there\u2019s something really special about 2001\u2019s Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It\u2019s had plenty of mods in its time \u2013 including a recent effort to recreate the lost Enemy Territory single-player expansion \u2013 but it\u2019s still looking a bit long in the tooth at this point, despite\u00a0the overhaul mod\u00a0released a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Well, if Doom can get ray tracing, so can the best Wolfenstein game \u2013 and this isn\u2019t coming from a regular fan, either.\u00a0Dihara Wijetunga is a senior graphics research and development engineer at AMD and\u00a0they\u2019re creating a Wolf PT mod \u2013 no, not that PT, this is a \u201creal-time path tracer\u201d mod with \u201ca custom DX12 backend.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

It\u2019s apparently \u201cstill very early in development\u201d but\u00a0Wijetunga provided a few comparison shots to illustrate the startling\u00a0difference. The difference between light and dark is even more apparent, with electric bolts lighting up an entire room or low-lit torches creating even darker surroundings. Check it out below.<\/p>\n

As for Wolfenstein 3, we haven\u2019t had a new Wolfenstein game since Youngblood in 2019\u00a0\u2013 so we\u2019re well overdue for an announcement. It may have multiplayer in some form\u00a0and is \u201cabsolutely\u201d coming,\u00a0but the big question is whether the Indiana Jones game will arrive before Wolfenstein 3.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
